Wellesley Animal Hospital has a general surgical suite and a dental surgical suite. Most surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis–your pet will be home with you the very night of the surgery. We know that surgery is stressful to our patients and their families, therefore one of our primary goals is to provide comfort. When you drop off your pet you will meet with our surgical assistant, Erika, who will go over the procedures of the day and what you can expect. You will be called when your pet is in recovery and given an update on any findings or conditions. Our surgical patients spend the day in our treatment area where we are working, so that they can be observed continuously. One of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians will assist the doctor in administering and monitoring anesthesia. Once anesthetized our patient’s blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and end tidal CO2 are monitored. Most will also receive intravenous fluids.
