Wellesley Animal Hospital is a full service facility.
WELLNESS
We provide routine and preventative health care such as vaccinations and parasite control. Our philosophy is to treat each pet as an individual, recommending only those vaccinations and products necessary for your pet. Our doctors make this determination after discussing your pet's "lifestyle" with you. As your pet matures we will discuss nutrition, medications and testing for early detection of age-related health issues. Our goal is to maintain your pet's quality of life for as long as possible.
SURGERY and ANESTHESIA
Wellesley Animal Hospital has a general surgical suite and a dental surgical suite. Most surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis--your pet will be home with you the very night of the surgery. We know that surgery is stressful to our patients and their families, therefore one of our primary goals is to provide comfort. When you drop off your pet you will meet with our surgical assistant, Erika, who will go over the procedures of the day and what you can expect. You will be called when your pet is in recovery and given an update on any findings or conditions. Our surgical patients spend the day in our treatment area where we are working, so that they can be observed continuously. One of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians will assist the doctor in administering and monitoring anesthesia. Once anesthetized our patient's blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and end tidal CO2 are monitored. Most will also receive intravenous fluids.
DENTISTRY
Healthy teeth and gums are vital to a pet living a long life. Many serious medical problems can be attributed to dental problems including pain, inability to eat, heart, and kidney problems. If you can brush your pets' teeth that is great, but not all pets will allow this. Our staff will advise you as to how to care for your pets' teeth. Even with good dental care, most pets will need to have their teeth professionally cleaned and polished at some time in their life. To be done properly and safely, general anesthesia is required. At Wellesley Animal Hospital dental cleaning and polishing is only performed by a Licensed Veterinary Technician (just as you would have your teeth cleaned by a licensed dental hygenist). All diagnoses and treatments are made by one of our Doctors (just as your dentist would). Wellesley Animal Hospital has modern safe equipment for dental procedures including dental xray, dental surgery, anesthesia and monitoring devices.
LABORATORY
Wellesley Animal Hospital has a well equipped in house laboratory. We are able to check for parasites, perform Complete Blood Counts and Chemistry Profiles. These tests are performed by our Licensed Veterinary Technicians and results can be available to the doctors within minutes. This allows us to perform pre-anesthetic blood work on the same day as your pet's procedure. This means accurate information for the doctor and one less visit for your pet. Tests that cannot be performed in our laboratory are still handled by our staff and sent to the appropriate laboratories. These results are often available the next day.
HOSPITALIZATION
Hospitalization is another stressful event for patients and their families. Again, one of our primary goals for a patient requiring hospitalization is to provide comfort. Wellesley Animal Hospital can provide comfortable hospitalization, continuous treatment, administration of medicines and fluids, and laboratory monitoring of our patients. Since our hospital is not staffed overnight, arrangements will be discussed and made with patient's family to provide the most approriate overnight care. This can include going home for the night, staying at our facility, or transfer to an overnight facility.
